Vermont International Film Festival (VIFF) is a film festival, held annually in Burlington, Vermont, USA. The 2011 Festival ran from October 21 to October 30.
Historically it was an environmental and human rights film festival. The festival was started in 1985 by peace and social justice activists, George and Sonia Cullinen, whose inspiration came from the success of their 1981 documentary, From Washington to Moscow, which won the UNESCO prize at the 1983 Hiroshima International Film Festival in Japan. As the festival evolved, it diversified its mission to include films of excellence beyond the traditional human rights definitions to films of artistic and social impact, as well as showcasing and promoting Vermont filmmakers.
